Last Sunday was a little different than the usual ones. TCF’s Dhoondo Karachi, a scavenger hunt event, meant to raise funds for children’s uniforms, was a unique idea to engage youth, rather, people from all ages to come forward and enjoy while donating for a noble cause. Team Macpac, led by Osama Dogar, participated with exuberance and fervour.
Personally, I didn’t expect such an impressive turnout but it was heartening to see a good number of people present there. What mattered was their exuberance; everyone was buzzing and lively. Even the senior people; they were full of life and ready to embark on the adventure.
The format of the event was also unique for me and for most of the people. I hadn’t heard of a scavenger hunt being arranged across the city in Pakistan prior to this. It was very refreshing to know about this the first time I got to know of this event, more so, because of the fact that it was a charity event.
The arrangements, plan, concept and execution were what I really loved about the event. It just wasn’t another poorly coordinated, half-baked event, meant to solely raise funds for a certain cause while leaving the attendees in a state of confusion and dissatisfaction. Every step was planned and was to be executed in an organized manner. The number of sponsors which their marketing team had managed to gather was also impressive. Getting a free ride from Careem was indeed something to be appreciated.
Moreover, the clues which they had come up with were also interesting and very well thought-of. Forcing one to research about the famous landmarks and roads, their year of inception and their old names was something I cherish about this event. Another reason to love this event was the fact that we, as a team, travelled across the city only in a few hours. From Merewether Tower and Swami Narayan Mandir to Empress Market to Sea View and T2F and even to running on the streets of Bahadurabad searching for the national flag, Pakola and coconut drink! The sheer randomness of this event and the fact that it could take you to any street of this city, based on the clue which you decipher, made this event all the more exciting.
If visiting places was exciting, we also had to buy certain items, which made the fun even better. Most of the shops where we visited, the shopkeeper already knew which items we required and informed us that prior to us other people had already visited to shop for the same products. It felt as if the whole city was involved in this very unique and intriguing event.
The knowledge which I gained from this event about the metropolis and the wonderful experience of roaming across the city is something which I take away proudly and eagerly look forward to such events in the future.
